Introduction

Hello, thank you for joining me along my journey of becoming a Runner! I've always been an active guy, played sports in high school and continued into adult recreation sports after high school. As I started my family and found a career, the activity level slowly decreased. Well my Fiance had enough of our lazy ways and started on the Weight Watchers program and completely overhauled our daily meals. Step 2 was getting more active, so we decided to JOG our annual Juvenile Diabetes charity walk and actually enjoyed the activity. The month following the charity walk, we signed up for our first official 5K and had an absolute blast. From that point forward I have officially been BIT by the running bug and this is my journey to becoming a RUNNER!

Weekend of Epicness

Happy Monday Everyone!!

I can’t even begin to tell you how epic my weekend was.  I’m super stoked to share with all of you!!

I had an absolutely epic day on the mountain Saturday morning.  I didn’t share my plans last week because I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pull it off.  In preparation for Humphreys next weekend, I was planning a triple accent of the mountain near my work.  This would be roughly 8 miles and 3,500 feet of climbing.

Bottom line…my legs showed up big time and we dominated this D$%& run!!!

I wanted to be on the mountain by 4 am so that I could knock out a good amount of this run before the sun was up, it was going to be hot.  My goal was to complete each lap within an hour so that would be about 35 minutes to the summit and then 25 minutes back to the trailhead.  Well I started a bit later than I wanted but still got the first lap knocked out before the sun came up.  The next two laps were completed in pure daylight but the temps were around 85* so it was tolerable.  Not much to report about the laps themselves, I ended up sticking to the hour per lap plan pretty well, there was a lot of climbing, a lot of power hiking, and a lot of downhill running which was awesome.  In the end the run was 8.7 miles and 3,663 feet of climbing.  Just a monster day with the most climbing I’ve ever done in one session and complete confidence in my attempt at Humphreys next week.  Totally awesome!!

Summit #3
Saturday evening Mrs. Schlub and the kids let me open my Father’s Day gifts early.  I knew the big gift they got me but I didn’t think it would be in until next week.  Well she got it early and really surprised me for Father’s Day.  As a runner who loves photo and video of all the amazing scenery I get to see, this is a game changer.  I’ve finally made the jump into the GoPro World!!!

It’s waterproof in the integrated case so the kids and I had a ton of fun playing around with it in the pool yesterday.  I never complained about footage from my phone but man does this thing shoot some awesome video.  So be on the lookout for new and improved video coming to a theatre near you….or primarily on this blog but you get the idea lol.

The next two items are completely un-running related but just added to the awesomness of this weekend!!

Dean Ambrose won the Money in the Bank ladder match then went on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that same night.  Awesome sequence and I hope they give him a lengthy title run.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about please disregard lol.

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Championship last night in a thrilling game 7.  LeBron James gets his third NBA title and Ohio finally has a sports championship.  Can we stop hating on LeBron already, the guy is a stud.  Again, if you have no idea what I’m talking about please disregard lol.

In closing, just overall awesome weekend (not sure how many times I used that word in this post lol)!!  I make every effort not to overplay my tag lines but there is only one way to close up this post…

  1. DEAN!!! I'm so happy for him!! I was honestly just so excited that they let Seth win the title back from Roman... but then for Dean to cash in right there and take it from Seth! WHOA! I was jumping around my living room all by myself because Adam had to leave for a work trip yesterday! haha I can't wait to see where they take things from here with the post-Shield storyline. I never in a million years thought we would ever see Dean with the belt! I was bummed that New Day retained. I think it's time for them to pass the belts on to someone else, esp. now that the tag division has a few good teams. And where did the Usos go? After The Family vs The Club storyline they haven't been on Raw at all, have they? So weird!

Sorry for hijaking your running blog comments with wrestling, haha!

So glad you had a great father's day and I know you will love that GoPro! Can't wait to start seeing more video from you!

  2. Your adventures do tempt me to try trails; I really don't know what I'm missing, but I love the pictures! And happy Father's Day!

My siblings have GoPros. My sister runs with hers and turns them into race reviews. She ran the whole Great Wall last year with it and we have the most epic memories because of it. I'm jealous, enjoy!!
